Withdrawing Money

With M-PESA, you can easily access cash from your wallet, whether you’re a registered or unregistered user. Withdrawals can be done at an M-PESA Agent or from an ATM. Remember to carry your original ID for any withdrawal. 

Withdrawal at an M-PESA Agent (Registered Users)

Before you start, confirm with the agent that they have enough funds for your withdrawal. You can use any of these channels: 

a) Via SIM Toolkit (STK)

1. Open the SIM Toolkit. 
2. Select M-PESA then choose Withdraw Cash. 
3. Choose From Agent. 
4. Enter the Agent Number displayed at the shop. 
5. Enter the amount you wish to withdraw. 
6. Confirm and accept transaction details. 
7. You and the agent will receive an SMS confirmation, after which the agent will hand you the cash. 

b) Via M-PESA App

1. Open the M-PESA App. 
2. On the home tab, select Withdraw and choose From Agent. 
3. Enter the agent number. 
4. Enter the amount. 
5. Confirm and accept transaction details. 
6. Both you and the agent will receive SMS confirmation, then the agent will hand you cash. 

c) Via MySafaricom App

1. Open the MySafaricom App. 
2. Go to the M-PESA tab and choose Withdraw Cash. 
3. Select From Agent and enter the agent number displayed at the shop. 
4. Enter the amount you wish to withdraw. 
5. Confirm and accept transaction details. 
6. Both you and the agent will receive SMS confirmation, after which the agent will hand you the cash. 

d) Via USSD

1. Dial *334#. 
2. Select Withdraw Cash then choose From Agent. 
3. Enter the agent number displayed at the shop 
4. Enter the amount you would like to withdraw. 
5. Confirm and accept transaction details. 
6. You and the agent will receive SMS confirmation, after which the agent will hand you the cash. 

Withdrawal at an ATM (Registered Users)

M-PESA users can easily withdraw cash from their account at partner ATMs. The process is simple and involves just two quick steps. 

Step 1: On Your Phone 

• Go to your M-PESA App, STK, My Safaricom App, or dial *334#. 

• Select Withdraw Cash and choose Withdraw from ATM. 

• Enter the ATM Number: 

• • 555555 for KCB, NCBA, DTB, Family Bank, and Pesapoint. 

• • 286286 for Equity Bank. 

• Enter your M-PESA PIN. 

• You’ll receive an SMS with a 6-digit authorization code (valid for 10 minutes). 

Step 2: At the ATM 

1. Select the M-PESA button. 
2. Choose your language. 
3. Enter the 6-digit code. 
4. Enter your Safaricom mobile number. 
5. Enter the withdrawal amount and press Proceed. 
6. The ATM will dispense your cash and issue you with a receipt.  
7. You will also receive an SMS from M-PESA confirming the transaction. 

Withdrawal at an Agent (Unregistered Users)

Unregistered users can still withdraw funds if money has been sent to them. They’ll receive an SMS voucher with a 4-digit code that they will use during the withdrawal process. These are the steps unregistered users need to follow to make a withdrawal: 

1. Visit an M-PESA Agent (and confirm they have enough funds for your transaction. 
2. Present the voucher SMS and your original ID. 
3. Provide your phone number. 
4. Both you and the agent will receive an SMS confirming the transaction. 
5. The agent will then hand you cash equivalent to the value of the voucher presented. 

If the SMS voucher is lost or deleted, the recipient can call 100 (prepaid), 200 (postpaid), or 234 to have it resent.
