Buying Airtime
Need to top up? With M-PESA, buying airtime for yourself or someone else is quick, simple, and free of charge.
You can buy airtime anytime, anywhere, through:
- Safaricom Menu / SIM Toolkit
- M-PESA Super App
- MySafaricom App
- USSD *334#
How it works:
Via Safaricom Menu / SIM Toolkit
- Go to Safaricom Menu or SIM Toolkit
- Select M-PESA, choose Buy Airtime or Bundles then click on Buy Airtime
- Choose My Phone (for your own line) or Other Phone (to buy for someone else)
- Enter the amount and confirm with your M-PESA PIN
Via M-PESA Super App
- Open the M-PESA Super App
- Select Airtime
- Choose Buy for My Number or Buy for Other Number
- Enter the number (if different), amount, and confirm with your PIN or biometrics
C. MySafaricom App
- Open the MySafaricom App
- On the home screen, select Airtime Top Up
- Choose to buy airtime via M-PESA or Scratch Card
If using M-PESA:
- Select M-PESA option
- Choose My Number (for your own line) or Other Number (for someone else)
- Enter the number (or pick from your phonebook)
- Enter or select the amount (denominations are displayed)
- A pop-up message appears. Select Buy
- Enter your M-PESA PIN
- A confirmation pop-up appears with transaction details. Select Done
If using Scratch Card:
- Select Scratch Card
- Choose My Number or Other Number
- Enter the 16-digit PIN from the scratch card
- Or use the Scan Scratch Card option to top up instantly
Via USSD (*334#)
- Dial *334#
- Select Buy Airtime
- Choose My Phone or Other Phone
- Enter the number (if different) and amount
- Confirm with your M-PESA PIN
Important to note:
- You can buy a minimum airtime purchase of Ksh 5 and a maximum of Ksh 10,000
- No transaction fees apply when buying airtime
- Hakikisha lets you confirm recipient details before completing the purchase
