Some Kenyan online stores let you pay with Paybill or Buy Goods tills. But when you shop on local and international sites that use Visa at checkout, you can use M-PESA GlobalPay.

GlobalPay is a virtual Visa card linked to your M-PESA wallet. It works just like any Visa card, with a 16-digit number, expiry date, and CVV. You’ll use these details to pay global merchants for goods and services online.

There are no charges for online purchases from global merchant sites. However, a forex markup of 3.5% applies to the forex rate of the billing currency at the time of purchase.

To access this service

Customers can pay to online sites using GlobalPay through the following channels:

1.M-PESA App

Log in to your M-PESA APP.
Select the Grow tab.
Select GlobalPay, to activate your M-PESA GlobalPay.
Select your card color.
Enter your M-PESA PIN.
You will receive an SMS with the card number and expiry date.
To view card details:
Log in to your M-PESA APP.
From the Grow tab select M-PESA GlobalPay.
Select Show Card details.
Enter M-PESA PIN
Your card details will be displayed on the screen in the Card Format. (PAN, Expiry & CVV)

2.USSD

Dial *334#
Select Lipa na M-PESA
Select M-PESA GlobalPay
Accept terms and conditions.
Enter M-PESA PIN
You will receive a 16-digit number in a flash SMS. This is your M-PESA GlobalPay Visa credential (PAN)
You will also receive the validity period of the card in a separate flash SMS (Expiry).

To view your M-PESA GlobalPay details.

Dial *334#
Select Lipa na M-PESA.
Select the M-PESA GlobalPay option.
Select View Card details.
Enter your M-PESA PIN
You will receive your card number and validity period for the card in 2 flash SMS messages.

To generate a CVV (Card Verification Value)

Dial *334#
Select Lipa na M-PESA.
Select the M-PESA GlobalPay option.
Select Generate CVV.
Enter M-PESA PIN
You will receive a 3-digit number in a flash SMS.
The CVV is only valid for 30 min. Ensure you are at the merchant site and ready to check out before generating the CVV.

Note: A CVV is generated by the customer during the payment process to verify the payment. This will prevent anyone who has your card details from using your card because they may have to generate another CVV.
