M-PESA Statements
Need a record of your M-PESA activity? You can get stamped statements on your phone or have full statements sent to your email. You can self-register, request statements on demand, and use them for reconciliation or when an institution asks for supporting documents.
You can request statements for the last 1, 3, 6, 12 months, up to 2 years, or even a specific period. For statements older than 2 years, simply visit your nearest Safaricom Shop. Your statement will be delivered within 5 minutes of a successful request and is completely free for all M-PESA customers.
Ways to Access Your Statement
1) Get monthly e-mail statements
Get your monthly M-PESA statements delivered to your email by the 5th of every month. Here’s how to register.
- Dial *234# on your mobile phone.
- Select My M-PESA Information then choose M-PESA Statement.
- Select Full Statement.
- Register with your National ID or registration document number.
- Enter and confirm your email address.
- You’ll receive a confirmation SMS once registered.
You cannot change your registered email address; however, you can enter a new email when requesting a statement.
2) Access statement on your M-PESA App
- Download and install the M-PESA App from Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone).
- Log in using your M-PESA PIN or biometrics.
- On the Home page, go to M-PESA Statements and tap See All.
- Select the month to view.
- Tap Export Statements and set the dates.
- Tap Generate Statement to download it to your phone.
3) Access statement via USSD
- Dial *334#.
- Select My Account.
- Select M-PESA Statement.
- Choose Request Statement.
- Select the type of statement you want.
- Select the period.
- Enter and confirm the recipient’s email address.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN.
- You’ll receive an SMS with a code to access the statement.
Statements for Court Purposes
If your statement carries a disclaimer that it cannot be used in court, visit the nearest Safaricom Shop and request an M-PESA statement for court purposes.
- For civil matters, you must fill in the civil disputes statement request form and provide your ID.
- Statements for this purpose are restricted to civil cases and not criminal cases (which involve police investigation and/or prosecution).
Obtaining a Deceased Relative’s Statement
To obtain a statement from a deceased relative’s M-PESA account, you will need to bring the following to your nearest Safaricom Shop:
- Your original ID
- A copy of the deceased’s death certificate (keep in mind that burial permits are not accepted)
- An affidavit indicating your relationship with the deceased
- A letter from the local county administration/chief in the deceased’s area of residence
- A written request from the claimant (M-PESA Next of Kin Statement Claim Form)
Accessing Funds from a Deceased Relative’s M-PESA Account
This is what you need to provide to access a deceased relative’s account with amounts over KSh 30,000:
- Your original ID
- Original death certificate (burial permits are not accepted)
- Grant of Probate, Grant of Letters of Administration Intestate, or a letter from the Public Trustee
Note: Letters from this office must exempt Safaricom from any losses.
This is what you need to provide to access a deceased relative’s account with amounts less than KSh 30,000:
- Your original ID
- A copy of the death certificate (burial permits are not accepted)
- Letter from the county administration/chief in the deceased’s area of residence
Once the documents are provided, you’ll fill in a claim form and nominate an M-PESA registered number. Funds are transferred within 72 hours.
Note: Letters from the Chief/Sub-chief must be accompanied by an affidavit administered by a Commissioner for Oaths and sworn by the claimant.
