Sending Money

You can easily transfer money to both registered and unregistered mobile numbers. To send money, just make sure you have funds in your M-PESA account. You can send money through the M-PESA App, Safaricom App, SIM Toolkit (STK), or USSD (*334#). 

Send Money via the M-PESA App  

If you don’t have the M-PESA App, you would first need to download it. 

1. Download the M-PESA App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. 
2. On first sign-in, enable mobile data for secure login. Later, you can use Wi-Fi or mobile data. 
3. Accept the terms and conditions, then authenticate with your M-PESA PIN. 
4. (Optional) Register your fingerprint or face ID if your device supports biometrics. 

To send money: 

1. Open the M-PESA App. 
2. Select Send & Request, then choose Send Money. 
3. Enter the recipient’s phone number or choose from your contacts. 
4. Enter the amount. 
5. Confirm and complete with your M-PESA PIN or biometric authentication. 
6. You’ll receive an SMS confirming the transaction. 

Send Money via the Safaricom App 

If you don’t have the Safaricom App, you would first need to download it. 

1. Download the M-PESA App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. 
2. On first sign-in, enable mobile data for secure login. Later, you can use Wi-Fi or mobile data. 
3. Accept the terms and conditions, then authenticate with your M-PESA PIN. 

To send money: 

1. Open the Safaricom App. 
2. Select Send Money. 
3. Enter the recipient’s phone number or choose from contacts. 
4. Enter the amount and confirm. 
5. Complete the transaction with your M-PESA PIN or biometrics. 
6. You’ll receive an SMS confirming successful transaction. 

Send Money via SIM Toolkit (STK) 

1. Open the SIM Toolkit on your phone. 
2. Select M-PESA, then Send Money. 
3. Enter the recipient’s phone number and the amount. 
4. Enter your M-PESA PIN. 
5. Review the transaction details (recipient’s number and amount). 
6. Click Ok to proceed or cancel if details are incorrect. 
7. If you proceed, a message will pop up with the recipient’s name, amount and transaction cost. 
8. If details are correct select 1 to accept. If not, select 2 to cancel. 
9. You’ll receive an SMS confirmation upon successful transaction. 

Send Money via USSD 

1. Dial *334#. 
2. Select Send Money. 
3. Enter the recipient’s phone number. 
4. Enter the amount. 
5. Enter your M-PESA PIN. 
6. Confirm the transaction. 
7. You’ll receive an SMS confirming successful transaction.
