For Marro, every game is an opportunity

They say you are either born with a passion for something, or the passion grows over time. For Abdalla Marro, his passion for playing football grew as he grew.

Born in Tana River County, Marro carved a football niche for himself in Garissa where he was raised by his uncle.

So good was he that he got a sponsorship to join one of the best boys’ high schools in Northeastern Kenya, Garissa High School, to continue playing the sport. From there, he joined Garissa-based Berlin FC, the team with which he participated in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament for two seasons in 2018 and 2019.

A demure person in nature, Marro is not shy to talk about his achievements and how Chapa Dimba na Safaricom has given him a platform to be a well-known player in the region.

“In the first season, we didn’t do well and were knocked out early on, in the quarter-finals. That did not stop us, we saw it as a chance to sharpen our skills and tactics. I believe it paid off because we reached the finals in 2019. I even became a joint top scorer and was given the Most Valuable Player award,” said a smiling Marro.

Following his success at Chapa Dimba na Safaricom, he has played for Somalia Premier League’s team Midnimo FC, and he continues to pursue his dream, to play in the Kenyan Premier League, and abroad in European leagues.
