For the close to 25 years it has existed, Safaricom has been known as Kenya’s biggest listed company, and the foremost telecommunication services provider. Five years ago, the board approved a plan to turn the firm into a technology company.
As the company goes into the next phase, its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Peter Ndegwa, explains the two things it would like to do for customers.
The first is to want to use technology and Artificial Intelligence to improve how customers live their lives every day.

The company is already doing this with the connectivity and M-PESA platforms for individuals and with fixed broadband, solutions under Safaricom Business and the digitisation of government services.
