A Greek philosopher once said, “There is nothing permanent except change.”
Even though the quote was said 2500 years ago, it remains relevant today and has driven progress across many organisations and industries.
To grow, one must embrace change and take up new ideas, which in turn leads to innovation.
Since its inception, Safaricom has adopted this philosophy, starting by offering just calls and SMS to becoming the first mobile operator to roll out mobile data.
The telco’s innovation framework has allowed it to make products such as the My County app, Hustler Fund, and a chatbot named Zuri, among others, that have helped make their customers’ lives easier while also building the company’s profitability.
Fuelled by its innovative spirit, Safaricom has expanded into different markets across Africa, offering different technological offerings that were initially unavailable in those regions.
Recently, Safaricom hosted delegates attending the Made in Africa Leaders Conference (MLC) at its Innovation Centre. The visit showcased Safaricom’s various solutions, service offerings, and innovation framework, providing insights into their technological advancements and innovations.
The visit aimed to showcase the role that the Centre plays in stimulating bold actions across Africa.
According to Andrew Masila, Head of Innovation at Safaricom, the opportunity to host the delegates at Safaricom’s Innovation Centre is key to the organisation’s 2024 vision of becoming a leading purpose-led technology company across Africa.
“This visit sets Safaricom well for the future, and we see potential partnerships coming from this visit,” said Andrew.
The Conference Facilitator, David Thuku, noted that the MLC chose to bring the delegates to Safaricom because it would be eye-opening to show what the centre has to offer Africa, challenging the rest of the continent.
“Africa’s future is digital, and innovation is at the centre of this. Through this visit, we have seen that any challenge is an opportunity to innovate,” said David.
During the visit, a challenge was posed to Safaricom to play an ambassadorial role and scale its innovation across Africa.
