The 12th edition of the Koroga Festival concert series was nothing short of a magical experience. With performances from Manu Dibango, Edward Parseen and Maurice Kirya; electric would be a word that perfectly describes what took place at Arboretum Gardens that May 8th afternoon.
Music has a special kind of power. It unpacks memories, triggers emotions and brings people together. Based on its gift of being able to blend in generations, Koroga Festival`s identity was confirmed by the receptive mood of the audiences to the jazz music. And what is Koroga Festival without the food? From the voracious meat-eaters to the devout vegans, everyone was catered for.
The performances started at 2:00pm, with the first performer on stage being Edward Parseen and the different faces band featuring the truly talented June Gachui. With 12 years of playing jazz under his belt, the crowd was in for a real treat.
Maurice Kirya was next on stage, and the whole crowd loved his performance (especially the ladies). In between the different artist’s performances, Safaricom was rewarding 4G devices to Safaricom customers who had their SIM cards swapped to 4G which was free of charge at the event. We also had giveaways for the customers who moved to Advantage plus and also the ones who bought our 4G devices.
The highlight of the whole event was when the Jazz heavy weight, Manu Dibango took to the stage. The 82 year old Jazz musician`s performance was legendary! Manu showcased his incredible Saxophone expertise and it was easy to see why he is a world famous Jazz performer. Alongside his band, he performed his all-time favorite songs and ended the festival at a euphoric note.
