Humble beginnings fuel Samuel Njoroge

Samuel Njoroge, a Kenya professional golfer, based in Kenya Railways Golf club has an unlikely golfing inspiration.

“The person that I look to is called Tony Fleetwood. The reason is that he came also from a very humble background as me and he did it. He has achieved many goals. So even me, I look at him, and I say, even me, one day I’ll do it. I’ll go where he is, to be on top,” said Njoroge during an interview during the first leg of the PGK Equator Tour played at the Ruiru Sports Club.

Tommy Fleetwood, one of Europe’s leading golfers, has achieved success internationally as a four-time European Tour winner and most recently a silver medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

For soft-spoken Njoroge, the Kenya amateur championship, number one in 2018 and 2019, the transition to pro golf has been a series of bogeys.

But now with Safaricom’s support he can dream of birdies and eagles and emulating Fleetwood who according to Golf Digest has so far earned USD 25million from golf.

Njoroge is part of Safaricom’s team in the PGK Equator Tour together with Mutahi Kibugu (Nyeri Golf Club), Mathew Wahome (Nyali Golf and Country Club) and Mohit Mediratta (Sigona Golf Club).
