It’s a Catch-22 for many parents in this digital era. They know the dangers that lurk in the online space, yet they cannot avoid enabling their children to access the internet.
Children are able to surf the internet from a young age, whether for entertainment or educational purposes.
However, there are many risks that they face including cyberbullying, spreading of misinformation, identity theft, invasion of privacy and exposure to inappropriate content. With this, child online safety has become an imperative.
To help us explore the subject, our podcast today features Evelyn Kasina, Sammy Chale and Kawira Mugambi.
Evelyn is the boss at Eveminet Communications and a mother of two pre-teens. She is a family Information Technology consultant on safe internet use.
Sammy is a Child Protection Officer at UNICEF Kenya. He is also a parent to three children. He highlighted some of the policies in place to ensure that children are protected from online harm.
Kawira is the Growth Manager at M-PESA Go, the M-PESA product designed to drive financial inclusion and literacy for children between the ages of 10 and 17 years.
