Offering a pearl of hope

As the Safaricom Golf Tour sought to demystify the game, Nelly Gatonye was on a mission to show how the game's lessons apply to life.

Offering a pearl of hope

For Nelly Gatonye, the last decade has been about offering hope and direction to the young through her Pearl of Hope foundation.

Her passion for mentoring has seen her impact 10,000 lives, and she is just getting started.

From the start of 2022, Nelly partnered with Safaricom to be part of the Safaricom Golf Tour outreach programme.

In every leg, she ensures that as the children learn to play the sport of golf, they are also learning how they can incorporate the golf lessons into their day-to-day life. Focus, discipline and integrity are some of the learning that crosses over from the golf course to daily living.

Nelly also seeks to change the mindset of the young and make them believe in their potential and self-worth.

The 14-leg Safaricom golf tour sought to break the perception about the sport being for the rich.

This was the point when the tour went to the Kenya Airforce Golf Club and the outreach programme “Golf Mtaani” was held in Mathare, one of the biggest informal settlements in Nairobi.
